  1. I think it was important for someone of a higher status in america to host the discussion to help further prove the point that the 10% that make it in the world need to go back and help the younger generations make it big in their lives as well which is why the discussion was lead by Madame President (Former Secretary of Energy)
I gained from the discussion the desire to go help the young ladies that are growing up in my hometown with no one to really look up to and give them someone to look up to. Also I want to do what I did when I was in high school and volunteer at community centers and elementary school, helping children with their homework and other activities so that they will be successful in their future.

  2. I felt that that particular core session was a great way for us to interact with the President on a more personal level. I was able to garner moreso the insight & views that my peers shared of Dis-Integration.

  3. President O'Leary's lead role in discussing Robinson's Disintegration gave us, as the freshmen class of 2015, a rare opportunity to receive insight from someone much wiser than us. See, we are are still in the earlier stages of life, and are not yet in a social class of our own. We have been classified according to our parents' accomplishments. So hearing the perspective of Madame President, who has already declared her social class in life (according to the book I would say somewhere between mainstream and transcendent elite) was very interesting. By discussing the book I feel I gained more motivation to finish my degree and make something of my life so that maybe I may give back to my economically scattered people.

  7. I believe this talk was important was because it gave students a more personal connection with the schools president and shows that she is involved with their students. I feel as though we have gotten a better connection with our schools president an experience I believe we could not get at a PWI or a larger school.

  9. The discussion the class of 2015 had with President O'Leary was a great way to understand the novel, "Disintegration". Many points were discussed during the session, but the point that was important to me is not forgetting where you come from. No matter how much money you make in life, you should somehow or some way give back to your community. Giving back don't necessary mean that you have to live there; you should take some time in your or any community to give back whether it is financial or just talking to them. GIVE BACK.

  10. I believe it was very important that the president lead the discussion because of her background and the way she interacts with us its amazing. Highschool prinicpals don even do that.
One thing i learned from it is, No answer is the wrong answer. She accepted all answers as though they were right.

  11. I think it was appropriate for the President to discuss the book because the president represents Fisk, which contains many different groups of blacks that the book discusses. I gained knowledge about the views that different blacks have upon each other in my community.

  12. I believe that it was important that the Honorable Hazel O'Leary hosted the discussion with us because not only was she apart of the decision processs when it came to the book selection, but also it made us feel like a family. Being able to have the opportunity to have a discussion with the President of our University made it feel like a Fisk family. We are blessed to have that opportunity unlike other universities. I gained an understanding of how my peers feel about the black community and their outlook on what is happening to society. I appreciate those around me who made comments that were personal about their feelings towards the different classes and how it effected how they feel. I appreciate the time that was taken out to speak with us, and the respect that was given by my peers.
