Hello and Happy New Year Scholars. On January 12, Fisk hosted its annual Martin Luther King Day convocation. This year's speaker, Elder Darryl Taliaferro, spoke from the topic: Living a Dream or Fostering a Nightmare. Please respond by posting what you are individually doing to fulfill the dream that MLK spoke about in his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

  1. In order to help fulfill Dr. Kings "dream" I will continue to do well during my matriculation here at Fisk University. Then I will go on to professional school, most likely at a PWI where I will be able to do what I have to do to succeed, without having to worry about people judging me or not offering me opportunities because of the color of my skin.

  2. Elder Taliaferro encouraged us to realize who we are. We should not allow others to define us or our future. I aspire to live my life in a manner that would make those who paved the way before me proud. I want to accomplish great things in life; therefore, I can do my part to fulfill the dream, & not foster a nightmare. -Richard M.

  3. To help fulfill Dr.King's dream I will first advance my education.Entering into the world ignorant and unaware is setting yourself up for failure. So I plan to continue my matriculation at Fisk University euducating myself first so I can inturn educate others.

  4. I will honor Dr. King's "Dream" by pushing myself everyday. Sometimes it is all too easy to slip into a pattern and accept the status quo. However I will continue to remind myself that the struggle is not over and that Dr. King refused the status quo so that generations such as mine could better themselves.
